OTTONIAN ARCHITECTURE - The Westwork of the Church of St Pantaleon, Cologne, 980 The Benedictine abbey Church of St Pantaleon is the oldest Romanesque church in Cologne, founded c. 870. Around 970 the westwork (current facade ) was commissioned by Empress Theophano, a Byzantine princess the wife of Emperor Otto II.
