Skills To Learn
In order for students to be successful in the classroom, they must first learn how to be successful in making good choices. After all, they can't effectively learn if they can’t regulate their emotions and behave appropriately in the classroom. Social emotional learning might not seem like something that should fall under our realm of instruction but it is a crucial part of our job as educators of young learners.

Preparing for a substitute? Just want an easy way to include a book’s theme throughout your lesson plans? Using book companions in kindergarten can be a great resource. A book companion is exactly what it sounds like! It's a set of activities that students can complete alongside a read aloud. It usually includes the same theme or subject as the book.

Lower Case Letters
Teaching writing in kindergarten can be tricky! Not only do our students come to us with wide ranges of writing abilities, but it can also be difficult to know what exactly we should be expecting of our students when it comes to writing. One thing that has always helped me is knowing what I want my students to be able to produce by the end of the year. So setting goals is important! It helps guide my instruction and helps me to plan lessons that will get students to those goals.

For many of us, May signifies the end of the school year. Summer break is just around the corner, which means it is on our students’ minds (and ours, too!) However, just because summer is quickly approaching does not mean that we suddenly get to stop pushing towards those end-of-the-year kindergarten goals that we want our students to reach.

Even though this year has been different from most, it is still so important to celebrate the end of school with your students. They have learned how to be great friends and classmates, turned into readers and writers, and completed their very first year of school. Those are big accomplishments for our little learners! Here are some of my favorite ways to celebrate the end of school in kindergarten and show them how proud I am of their hard work.

Just because summer is quickly approaching does not mean that we suddenly get to stop pushing towards those end-of-the-year kindergarten goals that we want our students to reach. Instead, we need to find ways to engage our students in these last few weeks of school. What better way to do that than by incorporating fun May Kindergarten Learning Themes into our lesson plans?
