ah for the Polygon, seems like you have to either flipped normals or not enough geo to make that twist correct.

Yup, however it requires to set the smoothing groups (face based in Max unless there's a script I don't know about? ) ...

Try finishing thr rest of the model and leave these small details for the end. You could collapse 1 turbosmooth and use those extra polies to add dthat detail
