Meet you under the clock at Clery's

Rather nice panoramic view "up" O'Connell Street from the top of Nelson's Pillar. We think this was taken around 1950, but would love confirmation or suggestions to the contrary. Very surprised when I zoomed in to see that the clock actually said Clery's Store - referred to by generations solely as Clery's! Date: Circa 1957/1958 and no later than 1961/62 (thanks to DannyM8, Mr Tayto, Archiseek). NLI Ref.: VR 5140

Grafton Street in all its glory

One moment in the life of late 19th/early 20th century Grafton Street in Dublin captured - just in front of Sibley's booksellers and stationers, and proud purveyors of Stylographic Pens! Apologies for the missing strip on the left of this glass plate - hope we're not missing anything vital to the plot... Date: Circa 1903?? (thanks Tin of Beans) NLI Ref.: L_ROY_05530

Coral and Copper Snow

… of 49 Amiens Street! Could not believe my good luck when I spotted these two ice cream carts alongside the statue of Thomas Moore on the corner of College and Westmoreland Streets. If I haven't said it often enough before, Huzzah! for Robert French... Photographer: Almost certainly Robert French of Lawrence Photographic Studios, Dublin Date: Circa 1910?? NLI Ref.: L_ROY_04717

White Horses / Capaill Bhána

These two almost matching white horses adorned the fanlights of numbers 8 and 10 Upper Grand Canal Street in Dublin. We have a few Wiltshire photos that feature these white horses. I still see them around that area today, and I always wonder about them. One of my colleagues, Martin, told me that it used to be said such white horses denoted loyalty to George V. Can any of you shed any light on this topic? Originally a sort of code or just an ornament that looked to best advantage framed in a…

Trinity College Dublin, late 19th century

Very bustling scene at College Green in Dublin (at 13:16 o' the clock?). There are surely clues in this streetscape that can help us narrow down the date... This photo was taken probably by Robert French, chief photographer of William Lawrence Photographic Studios of Dublin. You can compare this view of Trinity College with its companion photo taken approximately 90 years later as part of the Lawrence Photographic Project 1990/1991, where one thousand photographs from the Lawrence Collection…
