Caesar is the codename for a former Syrian military policeman, part of whose job was to photograph the bodies of people that died in the custody of the Assad regime in Syria. The Caesar photographs are a representative sample of 55,000 images (of 11,000 people) taken by Caesar and other military photographs in regime detention centres from 2011 to 2013.
