Big Little Farm on Instagram: "Companion planting is a beneficial practice for home vegetable growers, enhancing gardening success through natural synergies between plants. It promotes biodiversity, creating a balanced ecosystem that attracts beneficial insects and deters pests, reducing the need for chemical interventions. By strategically planting compatible crops together, gardeners can optimize space, utilizing each plant’s unique characteristics for mutual benefit. Companion planting also aids in nutrient management, as certain plant combinations enhance soil fertility through nitrogen fixation or nutrient absorption. It fosters a healthier garden by minimizing the risk of diseases and deterring harmful insects, ultimately leading to increased yields and improved crop quality. Especially when you have hundreds and hundreds of seeds to start. Here is how I keep track of what, when and how to plant my flower seeds… •make a list of weeks leading up to your average last frost date for your area. •starting with you last frost date, number backwards(these are your weeks). •check seed packages and make a list of what needs to be started when. •most seed packages have all the seed starting information on the packet but if it’s not you can always look on the internet. •make sure to keep a log of when you plant. I promise you won’t remember and you’ll want to remember next year. 🙃 Don’t make it hard, don’t obsess over it. Put a banana peel in a mason jar of water for a day or two then pour only the water at the base of each tomato plant. Each time we have done this, SO many new tomatoes blossoms have popped up and the plants are getting taller! Apparently potassium is BIG for tomato plants! @ Huge thanks to my friend Ansley for letting me re-post this tip! - iFunny
