What to know when visiting Dubrovnik, Croatia... - Overdressed and Late

Dubrovnik, Croatia is along the Adriatic Sea is definitely one of the most popular cities in Croatia…so prepare yourself for crowds. However, it is so popular for a reason…its WORTH it. The city has so much history and every corner in Old Town is so picturesque. Things you should know BEFORE you go: We were so excited to explore Dubrovnik but really had to do our research! Therefore, if you’re headed to Dubrovnik or thinking about it, here’s a list of things you should know BEFORE you go, what you should DO once you are there and some EXTRA recommendations. Stay as close as you can to Old Town but don’t stay inside Old Town That’s the center of the city and where all the restaurants and action of the city take place. It is VERY busy so you don’t want to stay inside Old Town, but you do want to stay as close as possible. Things you should DO once you are there… Check out Banje Beach: It’s probably the most popular beach and worth a visit. However, the hidden beaches outside of the wall (which are also the filming locations for the Game of Thrones) are pretty cool. The ones on the outside are a bit smaller, low key and had more locals. Depends what you are looking for… Walk the City Walls: DO this and do it EARLY!! It can get really hot so I would suggest waking up early and walking the walls early. It can get really HOT and crowded up there so go early! The walk is not intense at all and you get amazing fews of the city (see below). Go TO Buza Bar: This one may be hard to find but 1000000% worth looking for! It’s a cliffside bar where people go for cliff diving and you can literally have a drink on a cliff. I know it sounds totally unsafe but it’s actually really cool (and only unsafe if you are drinking and diving)! Coral Beach Bar: This was our FAVOURITE spot! We were a little hesitant because we didn’t know if it was worth taking a cab over to another beach when we had one in walking distance but we decided to check it out on our last day and we wish we went earlier! It is more of a lavish hangout with king size loungers and AMAZING food. The lounge chairs are really only $5-10 more than the ones at Banje Beach so I would definitely check it out. It is also less busy and not as crowded as Banje Beach. Extra things you could do/see: Take a cable car up to the mountain – there is a sweet restaurant up there with beautiful views! It is expensive, but a nice experience. You can snap that iconic postcard picture of the old town up there. Go just before dusk to watch the sunset. Visit Nautika – It’s just outside the Pile Gate and apparently its the snazziest place in town, with two panoramic terraces Visit Lokrum Island – it’s a small island, just 600 m off the coast of Dubrovnik. You can paddle over with a tour or take a 15 minute ferry ride Let me know if you have any suggestions and/or questions. Well that sums up Dubrovnik and Croatia! Up next…my recap of Greece #staytuned 😉 Nicolette xo
