Kristen McMenamy grew fixated on becoming a model from an early age, dropping out of college and travelling daily to New York on go-sees while working nights in a pizzeria. In 1991, the agency Legends took her on and sent her to Paris and Tokyo, where she lived in tiny apartments with 10 other models. Peter Lindbergh was the first to see her beauty, followed by Karl Lagerfeld, who cast her in a couture campaign in 1992.
