Michael Collins. A leader of the Irish Rebellion. Director of Intelligence during the rebellion and later led the Irish Delegation in negotiations with the British to enact the Anglo-Irish Peace Treaty. Assassinated in 1922 during the Irish Civil War - he was 32 years old.

Taken before a dinner at which Michael Collins (1890-1922) was being honoured. His portrait hangs on the back wall. This photo was presumably taken some time after Collins was killed at Béal na Bláth on 22 August 1922 during the Irish Civil War. Date: 1922 NLI Ref.: HOG211
The Easter Uprising, as it came to be known, was soon put down by a wave of British troops and Michael Collins was sent to a Welsh prison.
