Alfred Hitchcock (right) said Cary Grant was ‘the only actor I have ever loved in my whole life.’ The famously exacting director wasn’t alone in his assessment, though it is especially weighty coming from him. It’s been said that Hitchcock regarded actors as animated props. Perhaps this is one reason Grant (left) stood out to him. The former acrobat and vaudevillian was never purely decorative; Grant was an unusually physical performer.
