HMS Victory
1805 Her Majesty’s Ship Victory is the only surviving naval warship that represents the skill of naval dockyard shipwrights, ship designers and the industrial ability of Britain during the mid 18th century.HMS Victory is a first rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, started in 1759 and launched in 1765, most famous as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar. Standing rigging - Wikipedia
Standing rigging on a square-rigged vessel (illustrated left), which supports a mast comprising three steps: main, top, and topgallant (illustrated right). The shrouds support each section laterally and the stays support each, fore and aft.
HMS Victory Main Mast Rigging
Okay, not ALL of the drawings in the 2010 reprint of "The 100 Gun Ship Victory" are poor-quality reprints. This illustration, showing a cross-section of the ship at the main mast and depicting all of the rigging associated with the mast, it's yards, and it's sails, is a prime example of John McKay's talent as a draughtsman.
