The Battle of Little Bighorn - Custer's Battlefield For me, this was my first genuine connection to history, a pivotal moment!!!! Imagine being here, being part of the army! This is where 16 soldiers volunteered to run down this ravine to get water while they were still under siege by the Indians. They got commendations, as they should have, as that is real bravery. Imagine running down this steepness while being shot at, and then running back lugging as much water as you could carry. Boggles Big Sky Country, Country Roads

View of the grave stones and the enclosed monument at the Little Big Horn Battlefield in Montana. The battle was fought June 25th, 1876. The cross marks the place General Custer fell. This battle was fought on the ridge just above the banks of the Little Big Horn River. The only authentic history of the fight is given by the Indians, for no white man was spared. This was one of the greatest Indian battles ever. Photograph c.1880. Graveyards, Cemeteries
