My Photography - Outdoor Family and Child Portraits
I feel like I have the best job in the world as I get to take portraits of families and children (big and small) as my job :) I love creating images that will be treasured forever of children doing what they love and the bond that exists between members of a family. I take my photos outdoors in beautiful Ireland.
You can see the thought that was put into selecting this girl's outfit for her portrait session. I believe that outfit choice can make a big difference to a portrait. My advice is: (1) nothing that will date a photo (e.g. logos or cartoon characters) (2) clothes that are similar tone or strength of colour look best together (3) patterns can be distracting and difficult to get to work together so I feel it is easiest to avoid them. www.maureenstuartphotography.com
I want my photos to be the key to your memories. This photo is one of my 'Age Photos', which are child portraits with a difference. During the photo shoot I take photos of the child doing their favourite things and the parents and child come up with a list of the child's favourite activities, toys, friends, clothes etc. The idea is that the combination of the image and the text, will in future years be a powerful reminder for the child and the parents of what the child was like at that…
I love this portrait of a mother and her girls. I love the pose, triangular poses work really well in portraits and most of all I love the expression...a family that laughs together stays together... www.maureenstuartphotography.com
It can be hard to figure out what to wear for your family portrait shoot. This family's outfits work really well for their family photo, a couple of colours of similar tone means while the colours create interest they don't distract us from their faces which is where we want the focus to be.. www.maureenstuartphotography.com
I specialise in outdoor portraits. To me this photo has it all, a portrait of a child in a beautiful setting. This child finds joy in everything she does and is very active. I love the juxtaposition of her energy with the calmness of the landscape and her pink shoes are the finishing touch. I can't help smiling every time I look at it :-) www.maureenstuartphotography.com
In choosing locations for outdoor portraits, I look for one of two things, a beautiful setting or a location, which has particular meaning for the family. When choosing the location for this image the client and myself discussed this and agreed to hold the photo shoot in a park this family visit regularly. I hope this image will be one that will remind them, both of this time in their lives and the many happy memories they have of visiting this park.
In portraits of girls, I love capturing them twirling and in sibling portraits I love photos which show the elder siblings looking after the youngest one. This photo has both, the eldest was explaining to the baby what to do and you can see that she is trying to copy her sisters :-) www.maureenstuartphotography.com
Two of this little girl's favourite things...her hippo and her football... I love the juxtaposition of the dress and the soccer ball, I reckon she will become a great soccer player. www.maureenstuartphotography.com
I love that outdoor portraits give me the opportunity to use interesting backgrounds and ones with lots of texture are always good. This is such a simple portrait but I love it. I love the texture in the background (a shed!) and the fact that the way the girl was positioned meant that the catch lights light up her eyes. This girl was a joy to photograph, as she is very relaxed and it is easy to say things that will make her smile. https://www.facebook.com/maureenstuartphotography
In family portraits I love images where the family are engaging with each other. Depending on the age of the children, giving them a challenge, as I did with this family to get them all interacting and to make them forget I am there, can work well. The triangular pose which resulted adds to this happy portrait of this mum with her children. www.maureenstuartphotography.com
I love the natural frame you can find for images in outdoor portraits and the beautiful light which resulted from holding this portrait session in the hour before sunset, the golden hour. www.maureenstuartphotography.com
