Pie & mash is a traditional London working-class food, originating in London's East End. Pie, mash & eel shops have been in London since the 19th century & are still common in south & east London, & many parts of Kent & Essex. The shops may serve either or both steamed & jellied eels. M. Manze in Peckham have been serving this dish since 1902.

London Liverpool Street Station 25th July 1976

A view of Platforms 2 &3 & the imposing overall roof at the Great Eastern Railway Liverpool Street station. Even the ugly electrification supports can't detract from the beauty of the Victorian train shed. The open view of east London in the distance has of course been obliterated by get-rich-quick buildings today and I think the footbridge I took this photo from is now part of yet another retail experience.

According to Buses At Work, route 55 was introduced in October 1969. RT's from Leyton T garage worked the route until October 1972, when DMS's took over. Maybe someone can identify this RT, seen in Mare Street between those two dates? RM's, then RML's were introduced from 1981 to 1987. See pic 166.
