The house was completed in 1776 for Betty Washington Lewis, the sister of George Washington, and for her husband Fielding Lewis. The plantation originally grew tobacco, wheat, and corn. In later years, the plantation served an active role in the civil war, serving as a makeshift military hospital. Lyons Demesne is a country house & estate in Lyons Hill, Co. Kildare, Ireland. Considered a "Georgian treasure", it was completed between 1785 & 1797. It was purchased by the late Ryanair businessman Dr. Tony Ryan in 1996 for £3.5 million who spent over £80 million renovating it, & it was bequeathed to his sons Declan and Cathal.
