The 5 piece Beetle Wing dress is owned by the "Oudheidkamer Enschede" (Netherlands) and is preserved at the museumdepot of Museum TwentseWelle, Enschede (Netherlands). Woven gold tissue with beetle wing embroidery.  Many of these beetle wing cases were collected in Burma (Myanmar) and sold on through Calcutta (Kolkata). Valued for their hardness and permanence of colour, their reflective qualities were sometimes thought to ward off evil spirits.

Beetle-wing embroidered dress, 1863-67 ”Indian embroiderers have used the shimmering iridescent wings of tropical beetles, or elytra, widely in court dress since the Mughal dynasty (1526-1857). This work was much admired by British women living in India during the British colonization.
