Original 1st Marine Raiders in training ... knife fighting Only THREE of the Original 1st Marine Raiders survived WWII ... replacements often call themselves 1st Marine Raiders ... but of the original group organized at Pearl under Red Edson, only 3 survived ... my father was one of them ... Red and Chesty Puller would drop by occasionally when he was in town and they would chat for hours. . to me, they were 'funny' men who laughed heartily ...my father was a sniper under Red.
