Neo-classical duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen emerged in 2007 following a chance encounter between Californian pianist Dustin O’Halloran and ambient drone composer Adam Wiltzie (Star of the Lid). Introducing themselves as a chamber jazz outfit, Moskus alternate between energetic improvisations and slower melodic pieces. A quiet, introspective and cinematic ballad like the superb “Moskus” brings the band’s music closer to post-classical ambient minimalism than a “classic” jazz trio.
