Michael Collins ("The Big Fella") A leader of the Irish Rebellion. Director of Intelligence during the rebellion and later led the Irish Delegation in negotiations with the British to enact the Anglo-Irish Peace Treaty. Assassinated in 1922 during the Irish Civil War - he was 32 years old.

Secret Destination? Probably Passage West in Cork

All that we had on this photograph was "National Army troops on board a ship bound for a secret destination during the Irish Civil War." See the comment below from Tin of beans who convincingly argues that this ship was the TSS Arvonia en route to Passage West in Cork, under the command of Major-General Emmet Dalton.
